The new Michelin Primacy Alpin tire is the overall winner and has been awarded the highest distinction—a "highly recommendable" rating—in a test conducted by Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil Club (ADAC), the German Automobile Association and Europe's largest automobile club.

Carried out by ADAC and its Austrian and Swiss counterparts — Österreichischer Automobil-, Motorrad- und Touring Club (ÖAMTC) and Touring Club Suisse (TCS)—the comparative test involved 16 brands of 205/55 R16 H winter tires.

The tires were tested for their grip on snow and ice covered roads as well as on wet and dry surfaces. Tire longevity was also measured, and in this category the Michelin Primacy Alpin received the highest absolute score, ahead of all competitors.

The Michelin Primacy Alpin responds to the dual challenge of optimizing both safety performance and longevity. During the design phase, Michelin research and development managers focused on meeting three performance objectives. Michelin Primacy Alpin delivers enhanced safety on wet surfaces by reducing braking distances. This achievement is due in particular to its innovative rubber called Helio Compound, which contains sunflower oil.

The Michelin Primacy Alpin also enhances handling on snow-covered roads thanks to its StabiliGrip technology, which combines two new sype design features. First, the sypes are designed to "bite the road, thus improving grip. Second, they are self-blocking, locking into each other to add rigidity to the tread pattern inside the contact patch, resulting in more precise steering control.

In addition, the Michelin Primacy Alpin generates savings for motorists thanks to its long life and low rolling resistance.

In its assessment, the ADAC says about the new Michelin Primacy Alpin "very balanced, best rating on dry, good on snow and wet, very good in wear.
