The Cruzes Shine In Belgium With A Clean Sweep Of Race 1

Huff, Menu and Muller dominate the podium in Race 1, Alain again 2nd in Race 2

It has been another excellent weekend for the Chevrolet team in sunny and warm Zolder: the Cruze has taken its first win in with a clean sweep for Rob Huff, and who dominated Race 1 to gratify the many Chevrolet fans with an all-blue podium.

In Race 2, the three Cruze fought intensely against the Seat of Tarquini. A contact with the Italian ruined the efforts of Rob, who finished sixth, while Yvan was forced to retire with a broken oil radiator. Luckily, Alain held on to take another podium finish for the team.

With these results, Chevrolet is strengthening its leading position in the Manufacturers’ standings, while Huff and Menu, separated by one little point are on top of the Drivers' rankings.

Chevrolet and RML had something more to cheer about, as Bamboo Racing’s Cruzes, which were making their debut this weekend, were also successful. Hong-Kong driver Darryll O’Young won the Independents’ category in Race 2, giving the Cruze its first success in the junior category, and finishing the race at an impressive 4th place overall.

Rob Huff (1st / 6th): "I am very happy with the results, at least that of Race 1. I took a good start and managed to pull away a bit, then when the safety car came out, I was a little bit disappointed, but at the re-start everything went well and could keep the lead until the end. Still, it wasn’t an easy one, as it was very hot in the car and there was a lot of debris on the track, which translated into vibrations in the steering wheel. In Race 2, I had again a good start, then was fighting hard with Tarquini. I was faster than him but he closed well all the gaps. I tried to pass him at the chicane, which was the only point where I could have a chance to do so, but he pushed me off-track on the right side and I went straight over the kerbs. Something got bent in the steering, because after that I had a lot of trouble with steering to the right, and lost four positions

Alain Menu (2nd / 2nd): "I am happy, it has been a very good weekend for me, with heavy points for the championship. In Race 1, I took a good start but couldn’t pass Rob in the first couple of corners and was lucky not to be thrown out of the track when Tarquini gave me a little push. After that, I knew it would have been difficult to pass Rob, so I secured second place. In Race 2, the first three to four laps were quite hot, Tarquini was in the lead and Rob was trying to pass him at every corner. I pulled a little bit away, waiting for events. After Rob went off track, I found myself second again, but preferred not to take the risk of really attacking Tarquini and maybe lose the good points.

Yvan Muller (3rd / DNF): "Not the greatest week-end for me, but at least I go away with one podium finish. Race 1 was ok, I had a good start and then could pass Tarquini to take third. My pace was good, but not enough to try to pass Alain. In Race 2, we were very close in the first laps, with Tarquini, Rob and Alain, I must have passed a little bit too hard on a kerb, that happens when you are very close behind another car, and the oil radiator got damaged, starting to leak, which provoked a couple of off track excursions.. I preferred to stop and retire as there was no point in going on like that.

Eric Nève : "I am delighted with the results; it is a great feeling to have the Chevrolets running the show in front of so many fans and guests. Zolder has seen me growing over the years and I am very happy to see so many motorsport fans greeting me and feeling happy to see me in a great mood!.
